The Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival (AKLF) 2025 was a treat for the senses and the soul, an enchanting confluence of literature, art, and culture in the City of Joy. Held from January 10 to January 12th. The three-day event brought together literary luminaries, acclaimed artists, and enthusiastic attendees for a celebration that will be remembered for years to come

The festival kick-started with the inauguration by one of the greatest singers of our time, the renowned Usha Uthup. Her irresistible voice and soulful performance followed by literary reflection truly resonated with the audience and made the day of sessions and vibrant discussions all the more special.

The high point of the day was the launching of Arjun Sengupta’s book, Shyam Benegal: Film-maker of the Real India, to pay homage to the late filmmaker Shyam Benegal. The session threw a poignant light on the contribution of Benegal to Indian cinema and the manner in which he portrayed social realities.

Fitness icons Milind Soman and Ankita Konwar took the audience by storm with their inspiring session on health, fitness, and overcoming societal challenges. The candid conversation of self-care and resilience really connected with the audience.

The day’s lectures covered astrology, storytelling, and social issues with a rich texture of knowledge and perspectives. Just as the day was coming to an end with the sun setting low, the impatience built up for days to come because people were wanting more literary splendor.

Day 2 of AKLF 2025 began with a vibrant celebration of literature and the representative people’s interest in community engagement. Renowned authors Amish Tripathi and Shobhaa De were on stage, discussing how storytelling today inspires people and informs them of mythology and contemporary society. Their dynamic presence and discourse left long-lasting impressions on the audience.

Journalist Ravish Kumar delivered a very effective session on the role of media in shaping public opinion, while actor-turned-author Tisca Chopra shared her journey from the silver screen to the literary world. Their sessions underscored the intersection of different mediums of expression and the power of words in effecting change.

The soul-stirring session of poetry through the words of the greats Javed Akhtar and Gulzar was undoubtedly a highlight of the day, as their profound verses and eloquent recitations really transported the listener to a domain of deep emotional and reflective dimensions.
